About me
I'm Melissa Rolfe, a Creative Director based in South Africa, working remotely with teams and clients around the world. For the past five years, I've been part of Superside, leading multidisciplinary creative teams and partnering with global brands across advertising, branding, presentations, digital campaigns, and emerging AI workflows.
My career has always been driven by curiosity. I started with Corporate Communication Studies before moving through print, internal communications, corporate identity, social media, and eventually above-the-line advertising. Every step has shaped the way I think about creativity, communication, and people.
Today, I work across creative strategy, art direction, design, and leadership. I enjoy shaping ideas from the earliest conversations through to execution, and I'm happiest when I'm close to both the concept and the craft. Leading people has become one of the most rewarding parts of my career, but I still love rolling up my sleeves and making things. I don't think good leadership means stepping away from the work. I think it means helping others do their best work alongside you.
Throughout my career, I've collaborated with brands of all sizes, working across time zones and disciplines to bring ideas to life. At Superside, I've helped grow long-term client partnerships, including my work on the Booking.com account, while building trusted relationships with clients, creatives, and stakeholders along the way.
I care just as much about how the work gets made as the work itself. The best ideas happen when people feel heard, trusted, and excited to contribute. Creating that kind of environment is something I value deeply. Mentoring designers, improving creative processes, and helping people grow in confidence have become one of the most rewarding parts of my role. I believe the best creative work comes from collaboration, curiosity, and people who genuinely care about what they're creating together.
I'm fascinated by how AI is changing the creative industry and enjoy exploring new tools and ways of working. I've completed extensive AI training and regularly experiment with emerging technology, not because I think it replaces creativity, but because I think it frees us to spend more time on the parts that matter most: ideas, storytelling, and solving problems.
Outside of work, life looks a little different these days. I'm a mom, so weekends are usually spent at playgrounds, swimming lessons, ballet classes, or simply making memories with my family. I still love scuba diving whenever I get the chance, enjoy painting to slow down, and I'm unapologetically a dog lover.
If there's good company and a great glass of wine involved, even better.
The older I get, the more I value listening over talking, learning over knowing, and consistency over recognition. I believe in thinking for yourself, working hard, treating people with kindness, and letting the work speak for itself.
